The Internet

URLS:

Uniform Resource Locators are internet addresses for different websites. The last three letters in each address line are called the domain designator and they will let the student know what kind of content the student will find on the website. Such domain designators are .com (commercial site), .gov (government), .net (networks, internet service providers), .edu (higher education institutions), and .org (non-commercial organizations). Just by looking at this part of a URL the student will be able to more appropriately distinguish between a good source of a website and a bad source of a website.

Search Engine:

By teachers and students using search engines they can more easily and quickly scan through multiple websites and decide where they would want to start for a research project. Students and teachers will be able to find better information by scanning through more information in a smaller amount of time. There are also better advanced searches in search engines where you can get a more specified search and only search through the websites that show results for a specific topic. This will also help with the efficiency of a research project.

Favorite Website #1:

Google Docs is one of my favorite websites. You can have a document on this website and remotely work collaboratively with multiple people and immediately see their feedback and send yours to them. This relates to this content because in a classroom setting students would not have to meet up with one another to work on projects.

Favorite Website #2:

Google Earth is also a website I like. The content relates because it can take you to anywhere in the world with just the click of a button. It can also be used for many different subjects and projects throughout the classroom.

  1. Google Docs was one of my favorites as well. Well, I just love the whole google website! So user friendly and I agree that it makes collaboration so much easier. I had a map project that I completed with a group through google docs and it's messenger.

  3. I also agree that through the use of search engines, students and teachers will be able to find more information in a smaller amount of time. I remember in my 6th grade technology class when our teacher gave us tips on what keywords to enter in the search engine, and how it made life so much easier with finding information on the internet! I agree that Google Earth is a neat website to use in the classroom because the world is at your finger tips! :-)
